Synovial Fluid Collection: Human synovial fluid is collected from the joints of cadaveric donors within 24 hours of death or as aspirates from a relevant procedure. The synovial fluid is harvested from both clinically “normal” donors and from those diagnosed with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Proper consent and serological information is obtained on all specimens.
Synovial Fluid Processing: Synovial fluid is briefly centrifuged to remove extraneous material and then aliquotted into cryopreservation tubes and frozen. Each aliquot has a minimum of 0.5ml of synovial fluid, but most samples have 1ml. Synovial fluid is shipped overnight frozen with dry ice. |
